A Guide to QuanTime - for Organizations

Join classrooms around the country and across the world in dedicating one class period to a quantum activity. The activities are designed for K-12 learners and are a fun and easy introduction to the field of quantum science. Choose from hands-on activities, online games/activities, and printables. No teacher expertise in quantum science is required!

We welcome organizations to register so we can help you get started with QuanTime.

BEFORE THE EVENT

Step 1- Register your event

Register your QuanTime event and we can assist you with ideas on how to plan for this, go over activities, and share other helpful information!

See the table below for a quick breakdown of your organization’s responsibilities and the role of the Q-12 Partnership in supporting you.

Step 2- Select QuanTime Activities

Browse our collection of quantum activities. Choose from hands-on activities, online games and activities, and printables.

No teacher expertise in quantum science is needed!

 Step 3- Plan Your Event

Plan the details of your event:

        • Where and when will your QuanTime event take place?
        • Are you hosting a school-wide event or are teachers fitting the activities into their schedules at a time that works for them?
        • Will your organization be choosing the QuanTime activities from the list for your teachers or will teachers choose from the whole list, and gather materials?
        • If your organization is providing materials, decide how and when to order and ship them to teachers.
        • What technology is needed for the activities? How many devices will be needed? Will students work individually, in pairs, or in groups
        • Create and distribute a teacher registration form for your event. (You’ll find a template in our Event Resources)
        • Consider inviting quantum scientists to participate in your QuanTime event through a virtual class visit.

Create a schedule for your event. Here’s an example schedule for a whole school event or classroom activity:

10:00 – 10:10 am – Event Kick-off / introductory video: What YOU can do with Quantum Science featuring Levar Burton (~6 minutes)

10:10-10:15 am: Welcome from Principal / Event Leader
Principal / other event leader briefly discusses the promise and potential of the emerging field of Quantum Science.

10:15-10:30 am: Quantum Activities – Classrooms/groups of students rotate through three hands-on, printable, online quantum activities (~20 minutes / activity)

11:00-11:05 am: Closing – Principal / other event leader shares closing remarks.

Step 4- Promote Your Event

Promote your QuanTime event in the community! Share promotional materials with community organizations, community leaders, local politicians, and media organizations (e.g., local news, newspaper).

DURING THE EVENT

Step 5- Try QuanTime activities!

  • Keep your eye on the clock!

  • Don’t forget to document the event! Take photos and videos to share with the school community after the event.

AFTER THE EVENT

Step 6- Next steps

Keep up the momentum after QuanTime!

    • Share event photos/videos with your community! Share photos/videos in school newsletters and on the school’s social media accounts. (Be mindful to abide by any publicity or privacy policies.)

    • Thank everyone that helped to make the event a success (guest speakers, volunteers, etc).

    • Get feedback from participants to help plan for next year.

    • Try more quantum activities and resources in the classroom (e.g., try one for a Fun Friday).

    About QuanTime

The organization of QuanTime is supported under the NSF-funded program Q2Work and was designed in response to an increase in requests for informal quantum educational activities packaged for K-12, such as the APS PhysicsQuest Kits. The inaugural QuanTime took place in celebration of World Quantum Day 2022.
