Quantum is Elementary Teaching Materials

What is it?

The Quantum Teaching and Learning in Elementary Classrooms is an NSF funded project focused on bringing quantum concepts to elementary STEM instruction. The project has worked with elementary teachers to create teaching materials and professional development materials that can be used by elementary school teachers.

The teaching materials include two full lessons plans: “Create an Emoji based on Two Simultaneous Feelings” and “Q-Bites: An Introduction to Superposition and Quantum Particles.” These lesson plans introduce young learners to superposition and quantum bits through fun activities. Other resources include a Quantum Chutes & Ladders game.

The team also developed a set of “Why Quantum?” cards for use in teacher professional development. Printable versions of the cards and slides that help lead a discussion are available. A Padlet containing links to many other relevant resources is also available.

How can you use it?

All of the materials are free and available for viewing on the project website.
